This very first number of the distinguished literary journal edited by Michael Cuddihy features three poems by Diane Wakoski, the acclaimed & prolific Beat-influenced poet then-associated with the Deep Image School pioneered by Robert Kelly. Above the first poem, "When the Shoe Fits," below her printed name, Wakoski has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles in bold blue ink. Other contributors of poetry & prose-poetry at their relatively early phases include such key figures as Wendell Berry, Andrei Codrescu, David Ignatow, W.S. Merwin & many more; & the iconic American poet Donald Hall (1928-2018) is the subject of an insightful interview conducted by Scott Chisolm. With notes on contributors, brief contemporary reviews, & sheet of subscription cards still intact & attached as last page leaf- endpaper.
