The Mediterranean Review Vol. II No. I (Fall 1971)

Orient, NY: The Mediterranean Review, 1971. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Diane Wakoski. A vintage number of the acclaimed "International Quarterly of Literature & Art," "...devoted to new literature not only from the Mediterranean area but from the rest of the world" as stated by the publisher, chiefly edited by Robert DeMaria. Featuring fiction & drama by Sam Elkin, Mario Fratti & others; non-fiction including "The Academic Take-Over" by John Atkins; poetry by Judith Kroll, the super-prolific Joyce Carol Oates, Diane Wakoski & others; & a portfolio of prints by Winn Revere Smith. At the beginning of her poem "To The Wives," just below her printed name, Wakoski, the esteemed Beat-influenced American poet then-associated with the Deep Image School, has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles in blue ink. With more illustrations & photographs; notes on contributors; & a wonderful contemporary ad for Allen Ginsberg's books then (& still) available at City Lights Books in San Francisco printed on inner rear cover. Large-format softcover complete with subscription card still attached between inner front cover & endpaper. A rare issue in this distinguished series; & a most desirable Wakoski collectible. In near-fine condition with moderate rubbing, browning & creasing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; very light rubbing & occasional spotting at edges of text block. Interior very fine with only small bump-folds at upper corners of a few page leaves. Near Fine. [Item #3498]
