Black Maria

Ostheim / Rhön: Verlag Peter Engstler, 1995. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. From the integral and prolific Verlag Peter Engstler comes this slim German-language volume from the late, venerable Jürgen Ploog (1935-2020) -- fellow Burroughsian and celebrated friend of the international authority on Beat Generation studies, the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu). Our research indicates that Ploog's "Black Maria" deals in part with philosopher Paul Virilio, "...a media critic and founder of 'Dromology,' in which he described social relationships in their relationship to the phenomenon of speed. In 1994, he developed the "dromocracy" utopia, outlining the fateful consequences of speed as an aspect of power and wealth." From this description, it is certainly natural that Ploog's fascination with Virilio would spring from the obvious Burroughsian concerns native to these concerns. Book in fine condition with slight shelf-wear to fine-edges; slight scuffs; bump at top-left and bottom left-hand corners of same. Fine. [Item #3587]
