Ashland, KY: BullHead, 1996. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Signed & with hand-correction by Editor & hand-correction by Joe Napora. The fifth number of the literary journal founded & edited & with commentary by the impassioned & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & activist. With the lengthy poem "Columba, the Dove" by the noted poet & professor Charles Cantalupo which, as he writes in a note following the poem, "...is the fourth of a five-part poetry and performance cycle called After Africa, including "Anima/l Wo/man," "Colonial/Neocolonial," and Child/Nation (natus nationis)." Also contributions by Cid Corman, the legendary editor & publisher of the Origin magazine series; Clayton Eshleman, the acclaimed & prolific poet who was a Corman protege of sorts & whose poetry was published in Origin; & many more. On front of the slender folded title sheet that forms the first page of this & all issues of BullHead, Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. On inner fold, the name "Cantalupo" is hand-written (presumably also by Napora), with an arrow leading to the part-encircled reference to his last name in list of contributors, which is misspelled as "Cantapulo"- a hand-editorial correction. Chapbook-style booklet in blank stapled wrappers in illustrated over-wrap with glued flaps. Another significant & scarce Napora-&-Co.-related collectible; & exemplar of provocative, (often darkly) humorous & topical poetry of the 1990s, in this case along with that of some of its inspiring predecessors . In very fine condition with only very light rubbing to front, back covers & spine of over-wrap; mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same, stapled inner wrappers. Interior very fine with only tiny bump-creases to upper corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3628]
