Bagnone, Italy: Magra Books, 2018. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Inscribed & signed by Neeli Cherkovski to Thomas Rain Crowe. In 2018, Editor Paul Vangelisti (formerly of Los Angeles' famed "Open City" magazine) and his imprint Magra Books released this important late work from the great poet, biographer, memoirist, Beat protege and magnanimous man of letters Neeli Cherkovski. Vangelisti was a literary comrade-in-arms to the bohemian, "Beatitude Magazine"-affiliated poets down in San Francisco--in fact, Cherkovski recommended Vangelisti's work (in both Poetry & Publishing) to this writer when he first visited Cherkovski in 2015. Cherkovski, famous for his street-level championing of his poet-friends and the power of literature; his associations with Charles Bukowski, Harold Norse, Jack Micheline, & many other great Beat-&-Beyond figures--features heavily in our 2018 debut publication, "Starting from San Francisco: The Second San Francisco Renaissance and the Baby Beat Generation," which chronicles "...the circle of aspiring poets around the poet and publisher Thomas Rain Crowe and the resurrected "Beatitude" magazine in the 1970s, who used a small-press explosion to sustain and move beyond what their predecessors had inspired." (John Tytell). [TMB Item #3071, Softcover, & TMB Item #3075, Hardcover]. This particular copy is made even more special by its significant association between Thomas Rain Crowe (who this copy is warmly inscribed to) and Cherkovski--the Baby Beat Generation's major Bay Area movers-&-shakers. Cherkovski's signature, in blue pen ink, reads: "for Thomas / Love / NEELI / August 3, 2018." An essential Baby Beat collectible which will only grow in value as the Second San Francisco Renaissance continues to be appraised by the growing contingent of Beat Scholars, many of whom are finally taking interest in the vast accomplishments and torch-bearing integrity of the Baby Beats. Book in very fine condition with only slight shelf-wear and barely-visible spotting/smudges near left-hand fine-edge of front cover; right-hand fine-edge of same; tiny bump to top left-hand corner of back cover. Very Fine. [Item #3687]
