La Souterraine & Paris, France: La Main Courante; Sens & Tonka, 2001; 2002. First Editions. Softcovers. Le Livre Chiatique inscribed & signed by Mathias de Breyne to Thomas Rain Crowe. Two collectibles by Mathias de Breyne, the acclaimed French writer: (1) Issue of the French literary journal Litterature en Marche (2002) with de Breyne's article, "The Baby Beats & The Second San Francisco Renaissance." This article features de Breyne's commentary & sampled poetry of such key figures as Thomas Rain Crowe, Neeli Cherkovski, Philip Daughtry, Ken Wainio & others who were at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s. The poems are in both English & de Breyne's French translation; all other texts in this & other articles in this issue are in French. With many images of the poets, ephemera etc. Following three years later was a book-length anthology with de Breyne's translations, Baby Beat Generation. Also see our book, Starting from San Francisco (item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075), in which Crowe brings to life the whole history of the BBG/SSFR, all its members & mentors. Softcover in sewn binding published during September 2002. (2) Le Livre Chiatique, a volume by de Breyne with three sections of his prose & poetry (the title work, "Absurdite (s'absurditer)" & "La Foire aux Cons"), all text in French. Softcover in sewn binding published during 2001. On the title page, de Breyne has hand-written, signed & dated in year of publication: "a Thomas Rain Crowe/ Cher Thomas/Voila-/ a (?)/ (signed) Mathias/ (?) Mar(ch) 2001." Two rarities in one desirable bundle, an early exemplar of Crowe-&-Co. scholarship & its immediate predecessor, both in very fine condition: (1) with only very light rubbing to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; two very small, shallow tear-stains at/near lower right corner of back cover. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. (2) with only a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; outward crease-curving at/near right upper edge of front cover extending only through first page leaf; mild, very faint spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves; point noted above for first of same. Very Fine. [Item #3806]
