Poster for Electrische Banane (Electric Banana)

Ostheim/Rhon, Germany: Peter Engstler Verlag, 2008. First Printing. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 16&1/4" x 23&3/8") promoting the publication of a 2008 German edition of Mary Beach's Electric Banana. One of many iterations of this now-classic work influenced & with an introduction by William S. Burroughs, who collaborated with Beach (1919-2006) & her husband Claude Pelieu (1934-2002). WSB is briefly quoted here in German translation. Beach's daughter Pamela Beach Plymell & her husband, the Legendary Literary Outlaw Charles Plymell, published English-language versions of this work under their Cherry Valley Editions imprint, & we obtained this item from them, our good friends & mentors. Most of this poster is dedicated to the reproduction of Beach's vividly surreal & hilarious collage artwork; the central image (of a psychedelic skull with legs & aura) is the front cover of the edition it promotes. The 2008 incarnation of Electrische Banane was preceded by a previous (1970) German edition translated by Carl Weissner, & was newly translated by Walter Hartmann & Gregor Pott. A bold, colorful, delightful, extremely rare piece of Mary Beach & Co. ephemera. In near-fine condition with short, faint creases & waves across surface that do not substantially effect images; mild-to-moderate wear, creasing & bumps at thin edges of upper & esp. right edges. Currently mounted on stiff board, in protective shrink-wrap. Will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube. This item cannot be sent by media mail, so extra shipping & handling charges are required. Near Fine. [Item #3835]
