The Paris Review Vol. 16 No. 64 (Winter 1975)
Flushing, NY: Sadruddin Aga Khan, 1975. First Printing. Softcover. This vintage number of the venerable literary journal then-chiefly edited by George Plimpton features deep interviews of two iconic twentieth-century British novelists of different generations: Kingsley Amis (1922-1995), conducted by Michael Barber & including a facsimile manuscript page; & P.G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) who had recently died as noted (therefore likely his final interview), conducted by Gerald Clarke (later a key biographer of Truman Capote) & including a facsimile plot manuscript. Also in this issue is a portfolio of photographs of writers by Beat-&-Beyond legend Gerard Malanga accompanied by poems (including of William S. Burroughs with a short prose-poetic essay by David Ignatow), & another of artworks by Vali Myers with her photo by Malanga & commentary by Plimpton. With fiction by Vicki Lindner, Graham Petrie & others; an exemplary roster of distinguished contemporary poets including Michael Benedikt, Gene Frumkin, Jane Kenyon, Kristina McGrath & many more; notes on contributors; contemporary ads (look for Edward Dorn's Gunslinger). Trade-format softcover, complete with attached subscription card. An especially varied issue in this most collectible series. In fine condition with moderate rubbing, spotting & faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; area at/near left & lower edges of front cover with significant but light spot-staining; mild rubbing, spotting & some light staining to edges of text block.
