Nicholasville, KY: Wind Publications, 2010. First Edition. Softcover. Inscribed by Joe Napora to Thomas Rain Crowe. "Joe Napora's FINK presents us with a lyric picture of the legendary Mike Fink and the Mississippi River panorama as he explores the conscience of a nation, and the myth of manifest destiny. Mike Fink, King of the Keel-boaters, was larger than life in both fact and legend. Brawler, drinker, practical joker, and crack shot, Fink the boatman, at nearly six feet and with muscles hardend (sic) by pushing the keel-boat, was a formidable figure to both friend and foe." (from back cover) The epic title poem by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & activist. Based on the myth-shrouded life & legend of Mike Fink, a quintessential early American frontiersman-adventurer. Softcover original, first edition as stated on copyright page, with printer's reference to "15 February 2010" on rear endpaper. On the shorter title page, Napora has hand-written: "For Thomas/ (drawing of compass points-star)/ For all of it- The/ length & breadth of it-/ The friendship." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Crowe & Napora are long-standing close friends & kindred colleagues, so familiar that Napora dispensed with signing this otherwise exemplary inscription. A most inspired & significant collectible in the Napora oeuvre, with important association & provenance. In fine condition with mild rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few small creases, tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only small-to-tiny bumps, creases at corners of page leaves. Fine. [Item #3849]
