Endangered Seraphim

n/p: Caleb Beissert, 2012. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Inscribed & signed by Caleb Beissert to Thomas Rain Crowe, & with stick-note with Crowe's notes. "Immaculate/ mushrooms dawn from the skies,/ where the earth touches. They spread/ their fleshy heads, up, up, up, as if longing/ before the winds take their spores and the flesh/ becomes/ watery/ and/ black." (from "Immaculate Mushrooms") a chapbook of poems by Caleb Beissert, a promising young poet & musician (see his website, calebbeissert.wordpress.com). A simple, self-published production. On the front cover, Beissert has hand-written, signed & dated in presumed year of publication (there is no date on copyright page): "Por mi amigo, Thomas,/ with gratitude,/ (signed) Caleb Beissert/ 2/5/2012." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Additionally, there is a yellow stick-note affixed at the lower part of first page ("We've Got to Get Ourselves Back to the Garden") with Crowe's hand-notes that indicate his enthusiasm for these poems. One sentence reads: "A NNP book!?" "NNP" stands for New Native Press, Crowe's publishing imprint. This chapbook is not listed among Beissert's published works on his website (although some of the poems were published in journals as noted on copyright page), & so we see it is a prototype seeking a publisher such as Crowe's NNP. A delightful item destined for rarity as Beissert's star slowly but surely ascends, with wonderful protégé poet-to-poet provenance & association. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine, virtually mint. Mint stick-note with Crowe's notes referred to above slightly overlaps with part of second-to-last line of poem, can be carefully peeled back & reaffixed. Very Fine. [Item #3857]
