Berkeley, CA; East Lansing, MI: Moe's Books/ Wesley B. Tanner; Robert Turney, 1991; n/d (circa 1987). First Printings. Single Sheets. Two rare pieces of ephemera by or of Tom Clark (1941-2018)- the great American poet, editor, novelist, biographer & artist who was originally associated with the New York School but ultimately developed a concise, varied style all his own: (1) A broadside (appx. 6&3/4" x 12") with the poem "Solstice," originally published in the collection Fractured Karma by Black Sparrow Press during the previous year (1990). The colophon states, "A gift from Moe's to celebrate the New Year, 1991...Designed and printed in Berkeley by Wesley B. Tanner." Moe's Books is a bookseller in Berkeley; Tanner is a well-known, venerable practitioner of the printing craft. A beautiful, hand-printed letterpress production with large gold title & illustration of stars above the poem. (2) An original developed photograph (remember those? Appx. 8" x 10" including margins) on thick stock. The image is a portrait of Clark, staring mysteriously just beyond the camera-viewer. On verso is the stamp of photographer Robert Turney of East Lansing, Michigan. There is no date, but a reproduction of this image appears in Clark's 1987 collection, Disordered Ideas. Two very rare & desirable Clark collectibles in one offering. (1) in very fine condition, substantially mint. (2) very fine with only tiny bumps at corners; one barely discernable wave-crease just below image at blank white mid-lower margin. Both eminently suitable for archival framing. Very Fine.
