Broadside-Poster: "RANT eats Kentucky Manger du Livre"
Louisville, KY: The Literary Renaissance, 1993. First Printing. Single Sheet. A large, slender broadside-poster (appx. 11" x 36") which announces & promotes the titled event, a Music & Poetry Festival described as a "59 Hour Non-Stop Insomniacathon" with a total of over 130 poets, writers, bands & musicians at a venue in Louisville, Kentucky which took place during October 7-10 of 1993. The creator-sponsor of this unprecedentedly monumental happening was The Literary Renaissance, the imprint/ series published & edited by Ron Whitehead & Kent Fielding which in tandem with their White Fields Press was devoted to "supporting a global literary community." Whitehead & Fielding were among the poets who read their works, along with David Baker, Charles Rittenhouse, Richard Taylor & scores of other poets, along with many contemporary bands & musicians. Magnify the image we have provided & you will see the dizzyingly dense rosters of poets & performers. Near the bottom, we are told to "Come Celebrate" a CD recording & a series of chapbooks by TLR including by Diane di Prima (whom we have just as of this writing learned has passed away) & Jack Kerouac. The di Prima item referred to must likely be "The Mask Is the Path of the Star" published by WFP that year in an edition of 50 hand-numbered & signed copies (see our item No. 1459). With background artwork by Rick Phelps entitled "Phone Phone." Interestingly, this event is billed here as the "Largest Ever in Kentucky History," as indeed it was up to that time, but it would be superseded by a RANT event with even more participants the following year (1994, see our item No. 3847). First printing of unknown limitation, a most rare & desirable piece of literary & musical collectible ephemera. In very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps at edges & corners. Currently mounted on stiff board in protective shrink-wrap, will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube. This item cannot be sent by Media Mail, so extra shipping & handling charges are required. Very Fine. [Item #3892]
