YIP: A Cowboy's Howl

Spartanburg, SC: Holocene Books, 1991. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. "I wanted to get out of here, to go a rangin' far to the/ south and east, to Cheyenne and Denver, Chicago,/ Cleveland, yes, even Cleveland drew me with its/ mysterious name and unknown streets paved all around," (first stanza, part I) An epic-satirical three-part poem by David Romtvedt, the acclaimed & award-winning American poet & musician. The full title & dedication is"YIP/ A Cowboy's Howl/ 1970-1990/ for Allen Ginsberg," & this chapbook production spoofs the Founding Father of the Beat Generation's most famous & influential poem not only in its title but its intentional physical resemblance to the iconic City Lights Pocket Poets edition of "Howl." Designated as No. One in publisher's "Saddlebag Poets Series" on front cover, first edition, first printing as stated on copyright page with "Over 500 copies in print." With an introduction by Joe Bob Josephson, of the "Triple Q Land and Cattle Co." A very scarce Romvedt collectible, we have not seen this goofy rarity among Romveldt's rather prolific works available. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & light browning, spotting to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; staples in process of rusting with minimal interior bleeding; very light & sparse spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only slight bleeding noted above; light spotting at blank inner sides of pages at middle staple-hooks; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #3894]
