Two petit productions by Antoine Bargel, the acclaimed French poet, prose writer & translator: (1) Silences, a collection of poems, all text in French. Softcover original, first edition published in May of 2004 per colophon. On blank front endpaper, Bargel has hand-written, signed & dated: "Pour Thomas Rain Crowe,/ From a French dishwasher/ and poet,/ Really happy to meet you,/ And hopefully see you/ some time in Caroline,/ with friendship and/ admiration./ 20/(?)/06/ (signed) A Bargel." Thomas Rain Crowe is the noted poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Bargel's reference to himself as a "dishwasher" undoubtedly is a nod to Crowe's memorable poem, "I Wash Your Dishes America," "Caroline" is presumably North Carolina, where Crowe was born, raised & has long-returned to, deeply attached to its culture & history. (2) Le Sexe Peint, a collection of what appear to be prose-poems or short essay-musings, all text in French. With reproduction of artwork by Regine Balaton ("Autoportrait") on front cover. Softcover original, first edition published in December 2007 per colophon (located here on front endpaper). On blank rear endpaper, Bargel has hand-written, signed & dated in French: "Pour Thomas Rain Crowe,/ Engage d'amitie/ et pour les quetes partagees./ (signed) A Bargel/ Le 12/03/08 a Eugene, OR." Two rare-&-related Bargel collectibles with significant poet-to-poet association & provenance. (1) in very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; mild spotting to upper edge of text block; much less to side & lower edges of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves.
