The Beginner's Line

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2017. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "The ancient Chinese associated water with the moon, the feminine, with flow, with fear. Like no other element, we connect with water. We are water. 70% of the earth is covered by water, 70% of (the) human body is water. Perhaps that is it, water inside and out, essential to living life. And always there, always here: fear, fear to learn from, overcome, more beyond." (from "Water Before") A chapbook of poems preceded by & followed with essays by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, publisher, editor & activist. Napora took up Kayaking-canoeing in mid-life, & these exciting, dramatic, thoughtful works express the life-lessons & insights he obtained from these primal human experiences in nature. With several color reproductions of photographs showing the poet with his companions & guides. The volume is dedicated to the memory of four river guides who perished at relatively young ages during these perilous endeavors, as are some of the poems that celebrate & memorialize them. A handsome production in sewn binding by Napora's own imprint. On the title page, Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. A most moving, inspired & inspiring Napora collectible; & very scarce. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & some small, faint creases to front, back covers & spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only faint creases across thin upper edges of a few page leaves; miniscule bumps at lower corners of a few of same. Very Fine. [Item #3929]
