Falling Woman

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2018. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Initialed by Joe Napora. "The One. The One and the Many. What connects? What divides? Once we knew. Before the internet, smart phones, E-mail, before telephones, before writing, before information, we knew. There is an Iroquois tale called "The Woman Who Fell from the Sky" describing the creation of the universe and the beginning of the human race...This story connects us to the outer world of sky and earth, but it also connects us to the inner- our bodies, birth, the universal uterine journey." (from first page) A chapbook with a critical synopsis & commentary on the ancient Native American fable by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific poet, publisher, editor & activist. With vintage map & decorative images, as well as reproduction of a turtle woodcut by six-year-old Jason Napora (Joe's son or grandson?). As noted on back cover, this is an excerpt from Napora's larger work, Monumental Fictions: a one week tour of the Ohio Indian Mounds. A beautiful production in hand-sewn wrappers by Napora's own BullHead imprint. At colophon-copyright portion of back cover, Napora has hand-written his initials "JN" in bold black ink. A rare & desirable Napora collectible that highlights his Native American-related knowledge & scholarship. In very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & sewn spine; miniscule bumps at lower corners of a few page leaves; otherwise virtually mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #3946]
