Nine Songs with: Prospectus
Isla Vista, CA: Turkey Press, 1981. Limited First Edition. Hardcover; Single Sheet. With signed hand-colored illustration & signed autograph poem by Tom Clark. "At 3a.m., television tells/ its secrets to the/ armchair sleeper." ("TV Music") A slim volume with nine short, haiku-like subtly linked poems by Tom Clark (1941-2018), the profound poet, editor, novelist, biographer & artist who is the foremost poster figure for our category of "The Prolific & Underappreciated." Hardcover in paper boards with illustrated dust jacket, one of an edition of 200 copies in three formats per colophon: 150 copies in handmade paper over boards; 40 copies numbered & signed by Clark in linen & handmade paper over boards; & 10 copies in linen & handmade paper over boards, lettered & signed with a full-color hand illustration. This copy appears to be from the first category of 150 noted above, but: Clark has hand-colored & signed his letterpress-reproduced illustration on title page (on which we notice references & landmarks of our city of Ann Arbor, where Clark once resided as a graduate student) ; & has also hand-written & signed an autograph poem entitled "Song Number Ten" on blank page opposite colophon. Additionally, the original publisher's prospectus with reproduction of the same illustration (uncolored) & colophon information, oblong sheet of beautiful handmade paper printed on recto only, is included here. An exquisite production, & a uniquely rare specimen of this very important Clark collectible. Book in very fine condition with only a tiny bit of wear at edges & corners of boards & spine; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Dust jacket very fine with only tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners. Prospectus very fine with only tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; lower edge irregular on handmade paper as issued. Very Fine / Very fine. [Item #3950]
