Johnstown, OH; Danville, KY: Pudding House Publications; n/p, 1995; 2003. First Editions. Stapled Wrappers; Loose Folded Sheets. Greatest Hits inscribed & signed by Joe Napora to Thomas Rain Crowe; "Scighte" signed by Napora. Two wonderful rarities by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & activist: (1) Greatest Hits 1978-1999, chapbook in stapled wrappers, No. 175 in publisher's Greatest Hits Series, first edition as stated on copyright page. As noted on back cover, "The poets in this series write about their lives as poets with much diversity- some focusing on how the whole life affects their work. Others focus on their education, teaching, and presentations. The poets have been asked to write about the lives of the poems as well. From academic poets to community and street poets, the Greatest Hits series provides their top 12 numbers from a broad range of venues and publishing histories." With short biography, introductory analytical essay by the poet, & twelve poems gathered from various editions. On the title page, Napora has hand-written & signed: "For Thomas-/ for all the years./ (signed) Joe." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Crowe & Napora are long-time friends & kindred colleagues, as demonstrated in this warm inscription. (2) Pamphlet of three loose sheets folded lengthwise to form twelve pages including covers, entitled "Scighte/ a poem by/ Joe Napora/ performed by/ Andrew Glendening/ Trombone/ &/ Joe Napora/ Voice." "Scighte" was first published in a poet-artist-printer co-production during 1987, & was performed at different Kentucky venues during 1995, as noted on inner front cover preceding the poem with notations. This pamphlet was prepared for a "third performance" with no mention of where this performance took place. On inner front cover page, near his printed name, Napora has hand-written his full signature in bold black ink. An excellent introduction to the Napora oeuvre with significant poet-to-poet association & provenance, & a rare piece of ephemera in one very collectible bundle. (1) in very fine condition with only very slight fading & short, light, faint creasing at stapled spine & shortly onto spine-edges of covers; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at mostly upper corners of page leaves. (2) fine with a few tiny bumps & short, faint creases at/ near edges & corners of all sheets, leaves; one short, mostly closed tear at upper edge of back cover/ final leaf. Very Fine; Fine.
