Riding a Troop Transport in Cherokee Heights/ My Children Pile Sticks on a Headstone

Acworth, GA: Occasional Snakes Press, 2014. Limited First Edition. Broadside-Chapbook. Inscribed & signed (twice) by Christopher Martin to Thomas Rain Crowe. Two poems, "Riding a Troop Transport in Cherokee Heights" by David King; & "My Children Pile Sticks on a Headstone" by Christopher Martin; on opposite sides of a folded sheet with printed-illustrated over-wraps to form what is termed a "Broadside" on front cover in what amounts to a slim chapbook format. King, a southern American poet & professor; & Martin, a noted poet, prose writer & fellow Georgian; commissioned this work in "A limited edition of 50 copies...to commemorate the celebration...for the upcoming poetry collection Marcescence: Poems from Gahneesah" per colophon (back cover), which is noted to have taken place at a residence in Marietta, Georgia on July 19, 2014; this is hand-numbered copy No. 42/50. With exquisite letterpress reproduction of an illustration of a flower-stalk (uncredited) on front cover & recto of broadside leaf. Below & overlapping with his printed name following his poem, Martin has hand-written his signature. Also, on back cover, he has hand-written & signed: "Thomas-/ Last of these/ that I have-/ sorry about the/ tearsmudges, but you/ know what they say about/ flaws. Thought/ you might like/ to have/ one of/ these./ Onward!/ (signed) Chris." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). "Onward!" is the signature citation of our good friend & mentor Crowe, used here by Martin in this warm inscription. King & Martin's Marascence: Poems from Gahneesah (Finishing Line Press, 2014, see our item No. 3974) does not contain these two poems that were printed here to celebrate its publication. A most rare & desirable literary artifact with very significant poet-to-poet association & provenance. In near-fine condition with one small area of surface paper loss surrounded by smudging (referred to as "tearsmudges" in Martin's inscription); a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; some very small spots near upper right edge of back cover which we believe are natural features of paper. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners. Near Fine. [Item #4004]
