Portable Shelter

Racine, WI: Wolfsong, 1980. Limited First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "A new pioneer/ the old man calls him/ pulls inward. Tempered,/ beaten, ground/ from an old file/ his draw-knife shaves/ curls of bark. Long lines/ and rough/ form a pile at his feet." ("Portable Shelter," first lines, pg. 12) An early collection of haunting, evocative poems by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific poet, editor, publisher & activist. With a 'Baker's Dozen' including the title poem (quoted above). The poems are presented perpendicular to printing of covers, title & copyright pages etc. A pleasant chapbook production, from an edition of 300 per colophon, which notes that 26 copies were signed by Napora (& apparently lettered, though this is not stated). While technically among the 274 officially unsigned, this copy is signed by Napora below & overlapping with his printed name on the title page. A rare & desirable collectible in the prolific Napora oeuvre. In very fine condition with only mild rubbing, creasing & occasional spotting to front, back covers & stapled spine; mild spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4008]
