Poetry and the Material Wor(l)d (Two Editions)

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2017; 2018. First Edition; First Edition Thus. Stapled Wrappers. One of two editions signed by Joe Napora. "Puns are provocations for the gods to notice us. Forcing words into single meanings, re-enforced by the ordered world of rules and its concentration (camps) of meaning, is the world of the prescriptive grammars, the world of writing as imperialism, the expansive colonizing stage of writing that has been imposed on all the worLd's (sic) people in order to control them." (back covers) Two first editions, published only two years apart, of a recent collection of poems by Joe Napora, the prolific & passionate American poet, editor, publisher & activist: (1) First edition, small chapbook in white printed wrappers with sewn binding, published by Napora's own BullHead imprint in an edition of unknown limitation during 2017. As Napora notes in his Acknowledgments page, the title is "...a nod to Philosophy and the Maternal Body by Michelle Boulouse Walker (an Australian academician)." An austerely beautiful production with exemplary employment of font sizes & colors. (2) Alternate first edition thus, published the following year (2018), also by the BullHead imprint & without stated limitation. A larger chapbook production in wrappers with sewn binding, front cover reproduction of detail of a photograph by Gable Napora (presumably a relative of Joe). The contents are substantially identical to (1). On the title page, Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink, below & slightly overlapping with his printed name. The two original (& we're fairly sure only) versions of this rare & rewarding Napora collectible, one signed & in one offering. (1) in very fine condition with only the slightest rubbing to front, back covers & sewn spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only miniscule bumps at lower corners of some page leaves. (2) very fine with only a bit of rubbing & a few short, faint creases to front, back covers & sewn spine; very slight wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only a series of tiny ink smudges on blank page opposite & impressed from signature; tiny bumps at lower corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4084]
