Trying to Deliver a Baby

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2017. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "I sit in a room I built/ attached to my garage where I watch/ the birds and the squirrels stealing/ the birds' food. I sip good bourbon/ and read bad novels. And I've learned to love" ("Bad Medicine," first stanza, unpaginated) A chapbook of poems by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & activist. Chapbook in sewn wrappers, a production of Napora's own BullHead imprint. With front cover & many interior illustrations, graphics & backgrounds- presumably by Napora, though uncredited. As with many of his more recent works, there is very little information provided, no copyright page or colophon. The poems themselves are quite accessible & down-to-earth. On the final printed page, below a quote by the great (indeed Maximus) Charles Olson ("What are we to do/ but break the egg of/ history, and get outside?") & the stamped letters of his initials (J,F,N), Napora has hand-written his signature & drawn a star/ compass, in bold black ink. A rare & rewarding Napora collectible. In very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & sewn spine; edges of text block slightly untrimmed as issued. Interior substantially mint except for a small constellation of tiny ink point-marks on blank page impressed from signature on opposite page. Very Fine. [Item #4115]
