Sonic Youth "Ghosts & Flowers" LP Record with: Postcard

Santa Monica, CA: Geffen Records, 2000. First Edition. Both Signed by Sonic Youth Guitarist Thurston Moore. NYC Ghosts & Flowers, a 2000 album by Sonic Youth, is mainly a creative reaction to the theft of their instruments in July 1999, in which Irreplaceable guitars and effects pedals with numerous modifications were stolen. It is also the first Sonic Youth album to extensively use prepared guitar since 1985's Bad Moon Rising, most notably on "Small Flowers Crack Concrete" (a file inserted over the neck pickup) and 'Lightnin' (a bike horn wedged under the strings). It is also considered to be the album on which the influence of beat poetry on the band is most evident. The lyrics to most songs resemble the beat style, Lenny Bruce and d.a.levy are name-checked and the cover art reproduces a 1992 painting by William S. Burroughs. This first pressing is signed by Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore on the lower left corner of the front sleeve, just below the parental advisory sticker: "To Jeffrey and family,/-(heart symbol)- Thurston" "Jeffrey" is Jeffrey Weinberg, publisher of Water Row Books. A most rare & unique item, for devotees of Sonic Youth & WSB. LP in near-fine condition and complete with original insert. Also included is a promotional postcard released by Geffen near the time of the record's release, additionally signed by Thurston Moore. Signature in blue pen ink reads: "Thurston '00." Moore is still delighting audiences and dedicated fans with his latest release, 2020's "By the Fire." His catalog with Sonic Youth and solo (including 2013's equally-Beat "Chelsea Light Moving," with the 6 minute track "Burroughs") must be studied and surveyed. Near Fine; Very Fine / Very Fine. [Item #4142]
