Cabin Nest

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2018. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "I've read accounts of a single person building a log cabin. A lone prospector in northern Canada or Alaska does it all himself. That's impressive. But building together, piecing together the communal knowledge gained from past building and from reading the relevant books and talking to the relevant workers, sharing the experience of turning a bare site into a home is more rewarding. Working together is the best way to form and forge friendship. It's also necessary to do the job the right way." (from last page of text, unpaginated) An autobiographical short story by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet & prose writer, editor, publisher & activist. In words & many color reproductions of photographs, the saga of a group effort by Napora with his family & friends to build an old-fashioned cabin in rural Tennessee unfolds. Chapbook in sewn binding, a beautiful production of Napora's own BullHead imprint. As typical of his more recent publications, there is no copyright or colophon information provided, but there is a reference that this is an excerpt "To be continued" from a larger work entitled To Build a Cabin. With front cover illustration of a cabin frame superimposed on a bird's nest (uncredited but presumably by Napora); & this relevant quote from Henry David Thoreau's Walden on back cover: "There is some of the same fitness in a man's building his own house that there is in a bird's building its own nest." On the title page, Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. A desirable & rewarding Napora collectible. In very fine condition with only a bit of sparse rubbing to front, back covers & sewn spine; a few miniscule bumps at corners of same. Interior with only two tiny ink spots on blank inner front cover, impressions from signature on opposite page; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #4154]
