More Mishaps
San Francisco, CA: City Lights Books, 1968. First Edition. Softcover. Signed by Carl Solomon. "Monsieur Solomon continues his epochal battle of wits, all satanic forces of pure reason arrayed against satanic legions of tiny thoughts emerging from his civilized unconscious A.D. Post-Marxists mid-sixties eternal banalities of wisdom language confront XX Century banalities of domesticated and foreign policy. Is it humor? Is it serious? It's a substance interesting as Bronx, a style rare in America, as it were the evolution of French pensee to consider the daily news." (Allen Ginsberg, quoted on back cover) The second volume of collected short writings by Carl Solomon (1928-1993), the bedeviled American writer best known as the dedicatee of Allen Ginsberg's epic poem "Howl." Ginsberg & Solomon famously met each other in the waiting area of a psychiatric institute around the time of the birth of what would become known as the Beat Generation. Solomon's own style as exemplified in this work & its predecessor, "Mishaps Perhaps (1966), might be termed Beat-Dada-Surrealist, or "perhaps" just sui generis. Offered here is the first edition, first printing, a production of the City Lights imprint (which also of course published Howl & Other Poems in its iconic Pocket poets Series), with all points in Cook, No. 67, pgs. 72-74. On the title page, Solomon has written in a rather poignant hand his signature below & next to his printed name in bold black ink. We note that as of this writing, we offer a bundle of both Solomon Mishaps volumes, unsigned second printings, as more affordable reading copies (see item No. 2985). A Beat-related Solomon classic collectible, extremely rare with his signature.
