The Middle

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2018. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "We talked as we walked/ away from the boaters/ who had circled around her/ not knowing/ that we had imitated/ the sacred glyph/ water, air, rock,/ and the living earth/ the circle within/ the circle without" ("Red Rock Art," first stanza, unpaginated) A collection of poems by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, essayist, editor, publisher & activist. A beautiful chapbook production in sewn wrappers by Napora's own BullHead imprint, no copyright or limitation information as per his more recent publications. With exemplary Napora-style graphics; & several color reproductions of uncredited, nature-themed photographs presumably taken by the poet. The main theme & topic here is the exhilarating rapids of the Middle Fork Salmon River in Idaho, with a foray into a short bibliography of works by the anarchist Peter Kropotkin followed by a poem that blends Kropotkin references with adventures in the River. On the final printed page, below & just inside dedication window (not effecting any text), Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. An impressive & desirable Napora collectible, in very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps & short, faint creases at/ near thin edges & corners of front, back covers & sewn spine; tiny bumps at mostly lower corners of page leaves; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #4185]
