100 Yds of Crash Barrier, Cancer of the Gallows and Other Poems Nobody Wants (Rogue Edition)

London, England: The Tangerine Press, 2020. First "Rogue" Edition. Softcover. A collection of poems by Billy Childish (pen name-persona of Steven Hamper), the prolific, polymathic British poet, artist, musician, photographer, filmmaker etc. As written in Publisher's Note & Acknowledgements, "The three collections included in this volume were first published as individual pamphlets by Viper's Tongue, an imprint of Hangman Books, Chatham. The poems 'the boot polishers of my mind' and 'the man that the children loved' first appeared in the "chapbook journal" fool-saint. Two additional, previously unpublished poems can be found in Poems Nobody Wants. Finally, readers heretofore unfamiliar with Mr. Childish's utterances should be made aware that this man is dyslexic and the poems appear as written by himself." The three sections of this edition (per title above) are each preceded by a (quite explicit) drawing by Childish. Large-format softcover in grey wrappers with white band which announces this as a "Rogue Edition" in red letters. A handsome, exemplary production by our good friend Michael Curran's Tangerine Press imprint. The ISBN number on copyright page which refers to a hardcover edition is crossed-out; as is the reference to colophon in index. Indeed this is a Rogue Edition, sort of a legitimate publisher's bootleg of equal quality to its non-rogue softcover editions. A most interesting introduction in a collectible (& appropriately) eccentric form to the vast oeuvre of Billy Childish- the kaleidoscopic, versatile, one-man creative force. In very fine as-new condition with only a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of front, back covers & spine as issued; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #4380]
