London, England: Sick Fly Publications/ Tangerine Press, 2019. Limited First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joost Halbertsma. A collection of illustrations & short graphic stories by Joost Halbertsma, a young & prolific Dutch artist described as follows in this biography on verso of final page leaf, quoted in its entirety: "Joost Halbertsma was born 1984 in the Netherlands. He earned his art degree in fine arts when he was 21. He works from his studio in the city-center of Rotterdam. He works in the underground music and comics scene, making the collaborative comix-Zine KUTLUL, illustrating for bands and constantly drawing a sketchbook. He makes 3d works out of cardboard and does exhibition designs for fellow cartoonists. Food and rent are made as a freelance art-technician for various museums. Often he gets really tired and depressed." Halbertsma's works here, macabre & existentially humorous, remind us of Roland Topor & even Robert Crumb, but with his own unique style & vision. Chapbook in sewn binding, a handsome, high-quality production of Sick Fly Publications, a subsidiary imprint of Tangerine Press, edited by Michael Curran, our friend across the pond in the UK. The twelfth number in SFP's "Walking Wounded Series" as stated on copyright page (a most appropriate category for these images, titles, captions & texts). One of a limited edition of 53 copies published during October 2019, signed & dated "2019" on title page by Halbertsma (next to an illustration reproduced with such perfect quality that we wonder if it isn't an original...) & hand-numbered at colophon. This is copy No. 39/53. A rare & very rewarding (if not exactly upbeat) Halbertsma collectible; another Tangerine-&-Co. instant rarity. In very fine as-new condition, substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #4404]
