Portents 17: Notes After An Evening With William Carlos Williams (March 12, 1952)

New York, NY: Portents / Sam Charters, 1970. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Published as "Portents 17" by Blues historian Sam Charters, this work is a 4-page stapled pamphlet containing a transcript of Allen Ginsberg’s notes from a March 12, 1952 visit with William Carlos Williams. Williams, a towering poet in American Letters and a primary influence on the development of Ginsberg, was a key figure to endorse and embrace the Beats early on in their literary trajectories. Ginsberg's notes--penned in a manner evocative of his classic "Indian Journals"--read like prose-poetry, capturing the vastness of a mind such as Williams' with impressive acuity and candor. A most interesting documentation of a meeting between two 20th Century giants. 1/300 Un-numbered copies in card stock covers with William Carlos Williams 1952 holograph signature reproduced on the front cover. A beautiful Ginsberg rarity in very fine condition, virtually as issued with only slight rubbing near topmost fine-edge of back cover. Very Fine. [Item #4422]
