Broadside: "1836. In The Cherokee Overhills."

Sylva, N.C. New Native Press, 1986. Limited First Edition. Single Sheet. A broadside (appx. 13" x 20") with the title poem by Steven Knauth, a noted Appalachian-North Carolinian American poet. A bold, beautiful letterpress production on thick handmade paper with fanciful, Native American-themed illustration by Dahna Massey which reflects the content of the poem. Below title is this statement: "Copyright (c) Stephen Knauth & Dahna Massey. 200 copies printed in Sylva, N.C. for New Native Press in the Winter of 1986." NNP is the imprint of Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Crowe was born, raised & has long-returned to rural North Carolina, & is undoubtedly an acquaintance & colleague of Knauth. This broadside was acquired by us from Crowe's own collection. A most desirable & presentable Knauth collectible. In fine condition with one very faint horizontal crease-wave through middle; a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners (lower edge slightly irregular as issued); one very small area of rubbing at/ near lower right corner; small area of light spotting at thin lower right edge; one tiny spot above lower left edge (all of the above in blank areas or in case of middle crease-wave not at all effecting text). Will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube, additional postage will be required. Fine. [Item #4445]
