The Kerouac Connection No. 23 (Summer 1992)
ISBN: (ISSN)09542965
Glasgow, Scotland: The Kerouac Connection, 1992. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This vintage number of the UK literary journal of the Beat Generation & especially Jack Kerouac, edited by James Morton, features a lengthy article by John Rupert which parses Kerouac's famous, not always well-understood "Spontaneous Prose" method, with many references, quotes & scholarly footnotes. Also in this issue are more densely informative articles including "W.H.O. On First?," about a mysterious, pseudonymous self-claimed Florida acquaintance of Kerouac; an essay on Kerouac's life in Florida by his (definite) friend John Montgomery & more. With a section of Kerouac-themed & inspired poems by Jim Burns, Herschel Silverman & others; a supplementary sequel with additional listings of recordings by & about Kerouac & Neal Cassady (see issue No. 19, our item No. 4425) by former editor David Moore; contemporary Beat book reviews by Anstee, Burns, Montgomery, Moore & others; a "News" section on then-current Beat developments; Morton's "Atop an Underwood" editorial page; "Small Ads" in the old classified style; notes on contributors &, on the final page leaf, obituary-tributes to Montgomery & John Parkinson, editor of the seminal A Casebook on the Beat (1961, see our item No. 4086), who had both died that year, by Morton & Burns respectively. A very broad, rich & rewarding issue in this most important & collectible series. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front cover, mild-to-moderate rubbing to back cover nearest spine & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps & short, faint creases at thin edges & corners of same. Interior with only miniscule bumps at lower corners of some page leaves; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #4462]
