Hardcover in boards with cloth spine & corners, first edition as stated on copyright page, first printing (to the best of our knowledge) with "I-C" printed thereon (indicating September of 1928). Another indication that this is a first printing is the previous owner's signature on blank front endpaper, dated "Christmas 1928," so close in time to the month of the first printing (again we believe). Without dust jacket, very rare in anything approaching a decent condition. A beautiful & rewarding collectible by this most beloved, time-tested & important American poet. In relatively fine condition with mild rubbing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & fading to thin edges & corners of same incl. very slight loss of cloth at lower spine-edge & corners; moderate browning & spotting to paper title affixed to spine with slight loss of lettering & graphics; tiny bumps, creases & a few short, closed tears at edges & corners of same; mild browning to side & lower edges of text block (the latter untrimmed as issued); moderate-to-medium fading of dyed upper edge of same. Interior fine with slight browning to paste-downs, endpapers & page leaves; original owner's signature & date noted above (which we feel enriches this volume). Fine. [Item #4520]
