Radium 226.05 Magazine No. 1 (January 1986)

Gothenburg, Sweden: Radium 226.05, 1986. First Printing. Glued Wrappers. This first number of the literary & art journal published in Sweden, edited by Ulrich Hillebrand & CM von Hausswolff, features "A Crimson Path They Go," a late post cut-up short story by William S. Burroughs (pgs. 11-12). Provocative, timely & hilarious, this is an exemplary later little gem by the Founder's Founder of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond, the patron Saint-Demon of our very enterprise. Shoaf, Section III, No. 345, pg. 157; Schottlaender, C566, pg. 81. Also in this issue are contributions of prose & poetry by many WSB-collaborating & influenced writers including Paul Bowles, Udo Breger, Brion Gysin, Jurgen Ploog (a key torchbearer of the cut-up methods & our late, beloved colleague at the European Beat Studies Network, ebsn.eu), Genesis P-Orridge & Terry Wilson; as well as some pre-Beat figures including the legendary Ben Hecht. With contributions of artworks including a loose folded print by Leif Elggren & a portfolio of photographs taken in Bali by Gregor Krause during 1912-1914. From the collection of Brian Schottlaender, author of "Anything But Routine," the most complete & up-to-date WSB bibliography now in its fourth ever-expanding online edition. We always consult our good friend Brian's ABR for all our WSB-related rarities, as above. A very rare & rich production, with distinguished provenance. In near-fine condition with mild rubbing, scratching & faint creasing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & some tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; several thin, light creases & a few spots across length of spine; areas of strange discoloration at covers which we believe are as issued to represent the appearance/ effect of the radium element (such is the rarity of this item that we could not obtain an image with which to compare it); mild rubbing & a bit of browning to edges of text block. Interior fine with a hint of browning mostly to blank margins of page leaves; very small-to-tiny bumps, creases at esp. lower corners of same. Near Fine. [Item #4661]
