Original Concert Poster: Jefferson Airplane, Great Society, and the Heavenly Blues Band (June 10-11, 1966)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1966. First Printing. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 13 & 7/8" x 19 & 7/8") announcing performances by Jefferson Airplane, Great Society & the Heavenly Blues Band during June 10-11, 1966 at Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. The acclaimed American artist Wes Wilson (1937-2020) is credited with the graphics & illustration that are reproduced here according to the Talmudic scholarship we have studied regarding this poster (which is similar in its depth to that of our underground comix from this period), although there is no facsimile signature or other reference to Wilson present on the poster. Also, per scholarship, this is an original first printing as indicated by the number "72" just to the right of a printers' union logo at lower left margin (see image). With all OFP points per Eric King's The Collector's Guide to Psychedelic Rock Concert Posters, Postcards & Handbills 1965-1973, BG-10-OP-1, pg. 321. An early & scarce relic of the 1960s musical counterculture from the year preceding its explosive zenith of 1967- indeed it is relatively simple & low-key compared to what would soon follow at the hands of Wilson & Co. From the collection of Dion Wright (b. 1937), a most respected & prolific artiste & sculptor who was at the center of the scene that produced this & the many other iconic posters that would follow, in its rarest original form (see Wright's memoir, Tempus Fugitive, Item No. 5008). In our experienced estimation, the condition of this poster is near-fine bordering on fine, with only moderate wear to blank upper & lower margins, edges & corners incl. small area of tape-removal residue at/near mid-upper edge, rubbing & wear at/near mid-lower edge with slight loss of surface paper, light (water?) spot-staining at/near lower right corner; light wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at all thin edges & corners. We note that the printed portion comprising most of the front of sheet is all-but-pristine. This item is too delicate to be rolled & must be shipped flat to assure no damage, therefore extra shipping costs will be required. Near Fine - Fine. [Item #5026]
