The Mandalay Dream

New York, NY: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. "The Mandalay Dream is a novel in the form of emotional memories and experiences involving childhood and manhood simultaneously, pivoting on the power and effect of touch- physical as well as metaphorical- through stories, vignettes, fantasy, dreams, and a strong first-person narrative. A man whose marriage has failed has encounters and experiences that cause his childhood to come into view, and as the book progresses, the boy comes more and more into focus. In his crisis the boy ultimately dominates." (from front flap) A haunting, resonant, innovative novel by Fielding Dawson (1930-2002), the great & prolific American author who emerged from the Black Mountain School (he was a disciple of Charles Olson, our favorite Maximus Obscurantist) to create his own sui generis oeuvre that is contemporary & associated with the Beat Generation-&-Beyond. Hardcover in unclipped first-issue dust jacket (with $6.95 price printed on front flap), first edition, first printing as stated on copyright page. See our many Dawson works & contributions including item No.s 2812, 2814, 2815, 4067 & 5209. A classic Dawson collectible in its rarest original form.
