Original Film Exhibition Poster: "Treasures From the Eastman House" (September 9- November 30, 1972)

Berkeley, CA: Pacific Film Archive/ University of California Art Museum, 1972. First Printing. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 15&1/2" x 24") announcing an exhibition of films entitled "Treasures From the Eastman House" during September 9- November 30, 1972 at the Pacific Film Archive located in the University of California Art Museum in Berkeley. The showings are described as "A series of films of great rarity & merit with seminar by James Card, Curator." Card (1915-2000) was an acclaimed, pioneering American film preservationist who established the motion picture collection at George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, the grand estate of George Eastman (1854-1932), founder of Eastman Kodak Company. The artworks & graphics reproduced here were created by David Lance Goines (1945-2023), the great American artist, calligrapher & master printer who passed away quite recently as of this writing, & "David/Lance/Goines/1972(small square)" in Goines' characteristic Art-Nouveauesque facsimile calligraphy is found near lower right corner of blue border (see image). No printer's credit is present, but all of Goines' posters were apparently printed at the Hieronymus Press, his own house imprint, in Berkeley. A boldly superb, relatively early & very scarce original Goines production in its largest, rarest original form. In very fine condition with only a hint of rubbing mostly to blank off-white margins/background (central image & large letters below it appear bright & substantially mint); a few tiny bumps, faint creases at/nearest edges & corners. This item is too delicate to be rolled & must be shipped flat to assure no damage, therefore extra shipping costs will be required. Very Fine. [Item #5465]
