Northridge, CA: Lord John Press, 1992. Limited First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Dan Simmons. A spine-tingling novel by Dan Simmons (b. 1948), the acclaimed & prolific award-winning American author who masterfully writes in the science fiction-horror-fantasy genres. Based partly on the stranger-than-fiction actual biography of Vlad the Impaler (1428?-1477?), the fifteenth-century Romanian monarch whose legendary life & cruelties were the basis for Bram Stoker's Dracula, which in turn inspired the vampire franchise that continues to entertain & disturb us in all media today. There is also a contemporary twist in Simmons' saga here regarding the AIDS epidemic. The copy offered here is from a limited edition of 500 signed by Simmons in bold (appropriately) red ink below his printed name preceding title page; & hand-numbered at colophon, from a total edition of 726. This is copy No. 443/500. A beautifully sinister production, hardcover in illustrated boards with cloth/gilt spine issued without dust jacket, in an elegantly stark black cloth slipcase (its own Dracula's coffin, you might say). A desirably macabre Simmons collectible in one of its rarest, special original forms. Book in very fine condition with only a touch of rubbing, very faint scratching to front & rear cover boards; one tiny bump at lower edge of front cover; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Slipcase very fine with only very light rubbing, small areas of fading to outer black cloth surfaces; slight discoloration to outer lower panel, edges & corners. Very Fine / (Slipcase) Very Fine.
