The Kerouac Connection No. 16 (Autumn 1988)

Bristol, England: The Kerouac Connection, 1998. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. “The International Jack Kerouac Recontre (or Gathering) was held in Quebec City, Canada, over five days last year. Efficiently organized by the Club Jack Kerouac, it offered a chance to explore the influence of Kerouac’s French-Canadian heritage as well as providing a celebration of his literary talents. As such, this event was different to all previous gatherings, taking participants along many new, unexplored, and unexpected roads. This issue is devoted to coverage of the event, and presents a wide range of views, often strongly contrasting, from participants of many nationalities” (Notes from the Editor, from copyright page). In fulsome accord with the short editorial exposition quoted above, Issue No. 16 of Dave Moore’s classic Jack Kerouac-themed (1922-1969) periodical, “The Kerouac Connection” indeed reports on the famed “Quebec International Gathering” of October, 1987. In this sense, it is as much a history in the mold of Oriana Fallaci as it is an “anniversary retrospective,” – a revisitation of events one year on.
