Best of San Francisco's Beat Poetry & Arts: A Classic & Contemporary International Forum

San Francisco, CA: Beat Poetry & Arts, 1994. First Printing. Softcover. From what we can gather, "The Best of San Francisco's BEAT Poetry & the Arts" compiles 'the best' of what were initially smaller issues of Beat Poetry & Arts: A Classic & Contemporary International Forum," a west coast literary magazine published & edited by one Michelle Maria Boleyn. As the title infers, the magazine features a panoply of West Coast heavy-hitters, -- totemic Beat giants like Bob Kaufman, Phillip Lamantia, & Jack Micheline. The editorial purview of the magazine isn't limited to the Beats or [what was then] contemporary poetics: the West Coast Beats are proudly featured beside antecedent troublemakers, like Charles Baudelaire. While the issue is simply too ripe with contributors to name each and every last one in our curation, here, we invite the prospective buyer of this issue to look at the images attached to listing and view the contributors page for themselves. This copy is signed by the Reddest of the Red Poets, Jack Hirschman (1933-2021) -- the prolific [& prolifically radical] California poet, scholar, & translator. Hirschman signature [at the poet's contribution] in thin, black felt pen ink reads: "Jack Hirschman." Medium-format softcover literary magazine-journal: the first and only printing of this [San Francisco-based] Beat-&-Beyond compendium. In strong near condition with only slightest shelf-wear, light rubbing, & light-to-moderate bumping to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; else pristine. Near Fine. [Item #5659]
