Poetry Vol. 207 (February 2016)
Chicago, IL: Poetry Foundation, 2016. First Printing. This number of the venerable literary journal edited by Don Share features "New York to San Fran," a lengthy, most exemplary poem by Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997), Founding Father of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond. This theretofore unpublished work was included in the then about-to-be-published posthumous collection Wait Until I'm Dead: Uncollected Poems. Curiously, Ginsberg's year of death is mistakenly stated as "1999" at his entry in the Contributors section (pg. 540- tsk tsk). Also in this issue are contributions of poetry by Thomas Lynch, Bernadette Mayer, Robert Pinsky, David Shapiro, C.D. Wright (a fold-out with excerpt from "The Obscure Lives of Poets") & many more. Trade-format softcover in perfect binding, first-&-only printing though not stated as such at copyright page. From the collection of Allen Tobias, assistant to Ginsberg beginning in the 1960s, critic, scholar, all-around Man of Letters & our esteemed colleague at the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu). An important issue in this eminently collectible series, of particular interest to Ginsberg devotees & with distinguished, highly relevant provenance. In fine condition with light rubbing & a few faint scratches, creases to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; one small area of moderate smudge-staining at blank area of lower front cover; very slight rubbing, occasional light spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps & small, faint creases at/near mostly upper corners of a few page leaves. Fine. [Item #5677]
