New York, NY: Vintage Books/ Random House, 1992. First American Edition. Softcover. "This volume of previously uncollected works represents the final legacy of one of the great and truly American writers of our time. It includes five of Raymond Carver's early stories (including the first one he ever published), a fragment of an unpublished novel, poems that have previously appeared only in small-press editions, and all of his uncollected nonfiction. Included here as well is Carver's last essay, "Friendship," about a London reunion with Richard Ford and Tobias Wolff. Arranged chronologically, this book affords an intimate and comprehensive thirty-year vision of a great writer in the process of becoming himself." (back cover) A posthumous compilation of miscellaneous writings spanning the career of Raymond Carver (1938-1988, b. Raymond Clevie Carver Jr.), the canonical American author considered by some critics to be among the ever-most important, & whose works are now enshrined in the Library of America series. Edited & with a Preface by William L. Stull, who knew Carver & edited some of his previously published works; & with an introduction by Tess Gallagher, Carver's widow. Trade-format softcover original, "First Edition, June 1992" as stated on copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon. Preceded the previous year (1991) by the first UK hardcover edition. We have included an interesting piece of ephemera: Catalog No. 8 of the venerable Derringer Books in San Francisco (undated, circa 1994), chapbook-format booklet in stapled wrappers. In fine condition with cursive marginalia in black ink at blank area of front cover, faint creases at lower corners of a few page leaves & sparse spotting at lower side edges of a few of same.
