Burroughs, "From San Diego Up to Maine," first paragraph, pg. 21) The very first published presentation of cut-up writings by William S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Gregory Corso & Sinclair Beiles, individually & in collaboration. First published in Paris during 1960, here we are proud to present the first American edition of 1968. Trade-format softcover original, a production of Beach Books, Texts & Documents, the imprint of Mary Beach, her husband Claude Pelieu, & Mary's Daughter & son-in-law Pamela Beach Plymell & Charles Plymell. These four legendary figures, of whom our good friends Pamela & Charles are still with us, were friends & colleagues in art & literature with WSB & Co., & published their works through the Beach Books & Cherry Valley Editions imprints. The front cover artwork is different between the 1960 & 1968 editions, & the frontispiece reproduction of a collage by Pelieu is exclusive to this edition. Both editions were published in an edition of 1000 copies. Maynard & Miles, A3 (b), pg. 20; Shoaf, Section I, No. 3(a), pg. 25; Schottlaender, A4 (b), pg. 5. As we prepare to participate in the long-awaited Cut-Up Conference of the European Beat Studies Network in Paris just a few months from now as of this writing, we offer this iconic inaugural cut-up publication, the first unleashing of this most important & influential literary phenomenon co-invented & most exemplified by William S. Burroughs, Founding Father of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond, among the greatest figures in letters & culture of all time, & the very Demon-Saint whose spirit overshadows our entire enterprise. In exceptionally fine, all-but-pristine condition with only a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine. Very Fine. [Item #5693]
