New York, NY: Grove Press, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. "The thirty years of correspondence between Henry Miller, regarded by many as the greatest living American writer, and Wallace Fowlie, the distinguished literary scholar, critic, and translator, reveals the interplay of two extraordinary minds whose tastes and judgments in literature have left a lasting impression on our age...The letters reflect the shared enthusiasm of both correspondents for the writers they love- Rimbaud, Anais Nin, (Andre) Gide, and many more- their mutual deep nostalgia for prewar Paris, personal crises suffered and surmounted." (from front & rear flaps) The collected correspondence over three eventful decades between Henry Miller (1891-1980), the great American writer & artist whose earlier works were an influential precedent for the Beat Generation; & Wallace Fowlie (1908-1998), the acclaimed American author, translator & academician. With an Introduction by Fowlie & an appendix of miscellaneous writings & compiled quotes.
