Original Concert Poster: Siegel-Schwall Band, Blue Cheer, Soul Survivors (December 21-23, 1967)

San Francisco, CA: Family Dog Productions, 1967. First Edition. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 14" x 20") announcing a series of three concerts headlined by the (Corky)Siegel-(Jim)Schwall Band, along with Blue Cheer (December 22 only) & Soul Survivors (December 21 & 23 only) during December 21-23, 1967 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. The artist Chris Johnson, of whom we have been unable to obtain any biographical information (see King's commentary for item No. 6129), created the artwork & graphics reproduced here, & "Chris Johnson 67' " in facsimile blue hand-lettering & numbering is found below image at upper white band near lower right edge (see image). According to the Talmudic scholarship we have consulted regarding this poster, it is a first-&-only printing. King, FD-97-OP-1, pg. 162. King writes: "The central image is a collage made up of five elements. From the top they are: a tan sky, the moon, a mountain valley, the head and one paw of a cat wearing a pink shirt and the open jaws of a baboon." King has simply entitled this poster "Collage." A most bold & unique, if not exemplary, psychedelic creation from the crack of winter following the "Summer of love" in its singularly rarest contemporary form. From the collection of Dion Wright (b. 1937), a venerable artiste & sculptor who was at the center of the scene that produced this & the many other mind-&-eye-blowing posters that symbolize a legendary time & place (see Wright's memoir, Tempus Fugitive, item No. 5916). In our Highly (hmmm) sharpened & experienced estimation, this poster is in relatively fine-verging-on-very-fine condition with mild rubbing, browning & a few short, faint creases at area below central image; very slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; one tiny area from upper right edge with loss of tan sky-background surface paper. Other than last point above, the entire central image collage appears bright & substantially mint. This item is too delicate to be rolled & must be shipped flat to assure no damage, therefore extra shipping costs will be required. Fine- Very Fine. [Item #6209]
