Realizations of Peyote Mind and After with: Peyotemind (CD)
Oak Park, MI: The Book Beat Gallery/ The End is Here, 2002. First Editions. Stapled Wrappers; CD in Case. "Under peyote I realized the most profound truths of my life and I know that these realizations will stay with me and influence the course of my life- they already have made a very discernible mark on my outlook, on my conception of myself, of other people, of my ultimate goal in life." (preamble, Realizations of Peyote Mind and After, unpaginated) The legendary American poet, publisher & countercultural activist John Sinclair (1941-2024), who very recently left us as of this writing, wrote prose & poetry about his profound experiences with the natural psychedelic peyote in his notebooks during 1963. In 2002, these early & most-importantly insightful writings were retrieved from collections here at the University of Michigan & transcribed in Realizations of Peyote Mind and After, published by Beat Books in Oak Park, Michigan- a nearby store-consortium that is a venerable, still-flourishing spiritual predecessor & inspiration to our own Third Mind enterprise. Chapbook in stapled illustrated wrappers, from a limited first edition of 500 (un-numbered) copies per colophon at verso of final page leaf. A beautiful, appropriately colorful production including facsimiles of four pages from Sinclair's manuscript notebooks. Included with this ultra-rare bundle is the audio recording Peyotemind, several sessions recorded live in Detroit during 2000-2001 with Sinclair reciting his peyote-minded vocals, backed by musicians. CD in case, produced by Book Beat concurrently with the above. From the collection of Robin Eichele (b. 1941), a noted Mimeograph Revolutionary poet who, along with Sinclair, co-founded the Detroit Artists' Workshop & is our nearby friend. John Sinclair was a most-major & important figure in the Detroit-style Mimeograph Revolution, poetry, Jazz & literary criticism, the 1960s counterculture & beyond. We were very privileged to host Sinclair here at our Third Mind Books venue in November 2022, surely among his final public appearances & truly unforgettable. This mutually-related collectible bundle is a scarce & significant contribution to his legacy. Chapbook in very fine condition with only tiny bumps at corners of covers & a few page leaves, otherwise substantially mint inside & out. CD as new, still sealed. Very Fine. [Item #6315]
