New Age Journal No. 12 (April 1976)

Brookline Village, MA: New Age Communications, Inc., 1976. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Allen Ginsberg. This number of the literary & cultural journal edited by Eric Utne (later of Utne Reader fame) features a lengthy & most-insightful interview on a wide variety of subjects with Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997), Founding Father of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond, conducted by noted journalist & photographer Peter (Barry) Chowka over several sessions during February 1976, with an introduction by Chowka & contemporary photographs of Ginsberg & Co. throughout, some taken by Chowka. (pgs. 22-28) On the contents page (recto of first leaf), Ginsberg has hand-written his signature in bold black ink just above the reference to this interview. Also in this vintage issue are contributions of articles on various New Age topics by John G. Bennet (1897-1974), the visionary British author & academician & many others; letters, reviews, contemporary ads etc. With color image of Ginsberg on front cover by Chowka. Morgan, C726, pg. 261 (which only refers to Ginsberg's poem "Gospel Noble Truths," printed on pg. 26 of the interview). From the collection of Kevin Ring, editor-publisher of & contributor to Beat Scene magazine & other indispensable productions (many available here), & our good friend in the UK. An extremely rare Ginsberg-related collectible, further greatly (perhaps singularly) enriched by his signature & with distinguished provenance. In relatively quite very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & faint scratching to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same. incl. one very short, closed vertical tear at lower left corner of front cover-spine with miniscule loss of surface paper; light rubbing & mild-to-moderate browning to edges of text block. Interior (again relatively) very fine with tiny closed tear at first leaf (an echo-extension of cover tear described above); mild-to-moderate browning to page leaves esp. at blank margins/edges; tiny bumps, creases at esp. lower corners of some leaves. Very Fine. [Item #6455]
