Broadside: "Wasted," "Kipling at Bateman's"
Poem-of-the-Month-Club, 1973. First Edition. Single Sheet. Signed by Kingsley Amis. Two poems, “Wasted” and “Kipling at Bateman’s” from English poet, essayist, and novelist Sir Kingsley William Amis (1922-1995), father of Sir Martin Louis Amis (1949-2023) best known for his novels Money (1984) and London Fields(1989) and who was named one of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945 by The Times. While they were very much two different people, father and son, there is something distinctly “Amis-sian” that ties them together — maybe it’s the vividness in which they were capable of pointing out the stupidity of society and the evermore present stupidity in the individual. These two poems are a credit to Kingsley Amis’ master of language and sound, which was not always used in pursuit of mocking or satirizing, and further support his ability to write straightforward and lucid texts. You can see how such a sharpness influenced his son! Single Sheet: First Edition & First Printing, though neither stated. Item is in very fine condition with minor creasing at upper left corner and lower right corner. Signed by author.
