This vintage (just-about century-old as of this writing) number of the venerable "Grande Dame" of American poetry journals edited & published by the legendary poet-publisher-patron Harriet Monroe (1860-1936) is a "Prize Award Number" (front cover) with announcements of prizes awarded under Poetry's auspices, & several of the winning poems (pgs. 102-113). Also with contributions by J(ames) A(llan) Mackereth (1871-1948), Monroe herself, Laura Sherry (1876-1947), Wilbert Snow, (Charles) Wilbert Snow (1884-1977, a poet & politician who was the Governor of Connecticut), H. Stuart & others. While the poets in this issue are not as well-known to history as those in some other Poetry numbers (including Maxwell Bodenheim, Wallace Stevens, William Butler Yeats et al.), it is nevertheless a contemporary time capsule of significant interest to the poetry/Poetry collector-devotee. With editorial commentary, reviews, "News Notes and Books Received" & a few interesting advertisements. Small-format magazine in wrappers with sewn binding, presumed first edition/ first printing of November 1924 with no reference to further editions or printings. From the collection of George Bornstein (1941-2021), author, scholar, academician here at the University of Michigan—a Tried-&-True Man of Letters who was a dearly missed friend & mentor to this writer. A rewarding relic of poetry in its rarest original form, with distinguished provenance. See also our item No.s 6277, 6317. In relatively quite good-to-near-fine condition with moderate rubbing, browning, scratching, spotting & light spot-staining to front, back covers & spine; moderate-to-significant wear at edges & corners of same incl. tiny bumps, creases, chips & partially closed tears with mostly minor loss of paper except for upper & lower spine portions, upper left corner of back cover with significant loss of paper; moderate rubbing, browning to edges of text block (all untrimmed as issued). Interior near-fine with mild-to-moderate browning, mild spotting & light spot-staining to blank inner covers; mild browning to page leaves esp. at blank margins/edges; tiny bumps, creases at corners of some leaves.
