Stroker No. 8 Double Issue (Vol. 3 No.s 2 & 3, Winter 1978-Spring 1979)
New York, NY, USA: Stroker, 1979. Stapled Wrappers. Presented here is the eighth issue of the literary art-cultural journal edited by NYC St. Marks Place underground denizen Irving Stettner (1922-2004) and features two letters and ink drawings by Henry Miller (1891-1980) the celebrated American author & artist whose earlier works were an influence & inspiration to the Beat Generation. This issue features contributions of poetry, prose, & illustration from iconic — and lesser-known— counterculture figures including the opening poem “The Warsaw Nocturn” from American poet and translator Jack Hirschman (1933-2021), prolific NYC poet Emilie Glen’s (1937-?) “Found Face”, and an excerpt from one of Hermann Hesse’s (1877-1962) letters from 1951 — just a hint of the enticing innards of this journal. Also featured in this issue is the “American Indian Section” starting at pg. 15, which includes statements from multiple Chiefs and other members of Native American identity. Chapbook-format journal in stapled wrappers, presumed first-&-only printing. Shifreen & Jackson, C609-611, pg 825.
