Island No. 3 (March 17, 1965)

Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Island Press, 1965. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This number of the Mimeograph Revolution-era literary journal edited by the acclaimed Canadian poet & editor Victor Coleman (b. 1944) features contributions of poetry by Paul Blackburn (1926-1971), the great American Black Mountain School-&-Beyond "Poet's Poet" & translator; Diane Wakoski (b. 1937), the venerable California-born Beat-&-Beyond poet, essayist & emeritus academician who resides here in Michigan; & many more including Coleman himself. Oblong journal in stapled binding over-wrapped with canvas; first-&-only printing. From the collection of Robin Eichele (b. 1941), a noted Mimeograph-Revolutionary poet who co-founded the Detroit Artists' Workshop with the legendary John Sinclair (1941-2024) during 1964, & is our nearby friend. A very scarce & most-collectible exemplar of a mid-1960s independent production in its singularly rarest contemporary form, with distinguished & very relevant provenance. See also our many Blackburn, Coleman & especially Wakoski works, contributions & ephemera. In relatively quite fine condition with mild-to-moderate rubbing, browning, faint scratching & occasional spotting, light spot-staining to front, back covers & spine; light wear & some tiny bumps, creases at/from edges & corners of same; moderate rubbing & browning to edges of text block. Interior fine with mostly mild-to-moderate browning to inner covers & page leaves (particularly at blank margins/edges); one instance of significant browning at lower third of recto first leaf (title/contents/copyright page); tiny bumps at corners of some leaves.
